Dansk Supermarked Group has appointed Thor Jørgensen as the new director of the supermarket chain Føtex.

Thor Jørgensen is the man who must ensure that the chain will continue its recent years’ positive results and remains one of the Danish favorite supermarket chains.

Føtex is rolling out a strategy that involves a strong focus on quality food, including own butcher and baker, combined with a wide selection in non-food and textile. This development will Thor Jorgensen  now be in charge of. He comes to føtex from his duties as Chief Operating Officer of Netto International. Thor Jørgensen was picked for Dansk Supermarked Group in January 2014 after several years at the Boston Consulting Group.

”We have looked at a wide range of candidates, both in Denmark and abroad. Along the way, it was clear to us that we had prepared the right candidate within our own organization. Thor’s strong analytical and strategic background will complement the Group’s executive committee well, while he has the skill to lead Føtex safely on the chain’s development and take Føtex to the next level,” says Group CEO Per Bank.

Thor Jorgensen says he views the job as Føtex director as one of the most attractive in retail.

”Føtex ‘base is incredibly strong with many fantastic quality food, high level of service and a range in non-food and textile which no other supermarkets match. I am very pleased to join with the rest of Føtex team every day to make a difference for our customers and to continue working to strengthen the chain’s unique position. It is a challenge I go to with a great deal of enthusiasm and energy,” says Thor Jorgensen.

He succeeds Mette Maix who’s leaving a chain in better shape than when she took over for 3,5 years ago.

”Mette has taken Føtex a big step forward, strengthened the brand and internally renewed the focus on quality and improved shopping experiences. Føtex has become both more attractive to customers and more profitable. I wish her all the best for the future,” says Per Bank, CEO of Danish Supermarket Group.

Thor Jorgensen takes over responsibility for Føtex at the end of the month.
