Clas Ohlson introduces a new smaller store format in the UK designed for omnichannel.
And targets Germany, starting next year.
“I am happy to announce that we now have contracts finalised for three stores in Hamburg as the first step in establishing Clas Ohlson in the German market,” says Klas Balkow, President and CEO of Clas Ohlson.
Clas Ohlson is preparing for establishing operations in the German market with retail stores and online shopping, and will open its first three German stores in Hamburg beginning in the summer of 2016. This is Clas Ohlson’s first step into the German market.
The chain has signed contracts for three new stores in Hamburg, one centrally located in the heart of the city, another located in the popular Altona city district and a store in Hamburg’s largest shopping centre in the Alstertal city district.
“With these three store contracts, strategically located in one city, we have created optimal conditions for a good start in Germany,” says Klas Balkow, President and CEO of Clas Ohlson.
The stores are scheduled to be opened beginning in the summer of 2016.
Clas Ohlson is also set to open a new store in St Albans, outside London, in September 2015. This represents the first step in Clas Ohlson’s continued expansion in the UK market and optimisation of the existing store network.
The new store in the Maltings Shopping Centre in St Albans will be constructed in Clas Ohlson’s new smaller store format where omni channel and interaction between stores and e-commerce becomes more accessible for customers. The retail space will total approximately 300 square metres.
The primary catchment area alone comprises approximately 110,000 residents. The store has a prime location in the shopping centre, which attracts about 21 million visitors every year.
At the same time the store in Merry Hill in Birmingham will close in August 2015, with a closing cost of around 10 MSEK in the first quarter as a result, which is expected to be balanced out during 2015/16.
During the 2015/16 financial year, Clas Ohlson plans to establish a total of 10-15 new stores.
