Former Metsä Group executive Mikko Helander is the new managing director, president and CEO of Kesko.
He will take over from outgoing managing director and president Matti Halmesmaki in January 2015, writes Yle.kesko_mikko_helander_460x315
It’s the first time that Kesko has appointed a CEO and president from outside the company. Kesko chairman Esa Kiiskinen praises Helander’s strong record in leadership. “Kesko’s management is experienced and competent and the Group’s financial performance and condition are very strong. This will provide an excellent basis for the work of the new President and CEO”, Kiiskinen states.
Matti Halmesmäki will continue as a special advisor until 31 May 2015 when he will retire.
Lately Kesko has announced the closure of eight of its Anttila department stores, affecting 1,350 employees, and four Kodin1 home supplies outlets, putting 220 jobs at risk.
