IKEA has reduced the size of a planned store in Reading, UK.
The reason is said to be the growth in online shopping.
IKEA had permission for a three-storey 38,000 sqm store but is amending this plan to a 33,000 sqm store over two floors because of the growth in online shopping.
“In our ever changing retail environment we want to provide our customers with a simple, convenient and enjoyable shopping experience”, project manager Roger Cooper tells trade magazine Retail Week: .
“We have decided that a slightly smaller store, re-planned with shopping ease in mind, will offer our customers a better in-store experience. We will still offer the full Ikea product range and the same services you can expect in any of our UK stores.”
No date for opening has been announced.
