Finland’s new government open for changes in zoning regulations how and where the different formats of the food trade may be established.
“As soon as we get to see how the guidelines will be in practice, we have a dozen projects we will immediately submit an application for.” says Lidl CEO Lauri Sipponen.

The restriction to a maximum of 2000 square meters large stores which comes in many attractive locations for stores in Finland might change soon.

Lidl’s CEO Lauri Sipponen are very pleased that the old standards and regulations may disappear and encourages new competition. He  has been particularly critical of the regulation and said repeatedly that it must be relaxed.

“There are many properties with a strange kind of food prohibitions. They are scheduled for any other type of trading, but remains empty.” says Lauri Sipponen to Kauppalehti.

Arttu Laine, Senior Vice President, SOK’s deputy is of the same opinion. But wants to wait and see what concrete comes out of the government’s plans.
