Finnish supermarkets have in the recent days announced major price cuts.
Now Lidl replies with price cuts from today.
Finland has generally high food prices and also a higher food VAT than, for example Sweden. But now the price is becoming a competitive weapon focus as the recession and the success of discount chains is affecting customers .
Kesko reduced the price of one hundred products right after New Year. This weekend announced S group that Prisma does the same thing with reductions up to 37 percent.
To Yle Lidl’s country manager Lauri Sipponen now says the chain will do the same to maintain its price position.
“We will adjust across the whole product line if needed,” says Sipponen who also says that a price debate was expected before parliamentary elections.
