Swedes pay more to send domestic parcels.

But Norway is the overall most expensive country to send letters from, but Denmark has the highest price level within EU.

This is the conclusion from a research made by the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency.

The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency, PTS, has compared the Swedish prices for domestic and international promotion of first class letters (letters to arrive the next day if they are sent within the country, or within three days if sent abroad) and postal packets with corresponding prices in Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Germany and the UK.

The aim was to assess whether the Post Consumer Prices are reasonable from an international perspective.

”Today we send fewer letters while e-commerce is increasing. This also faces the challenge of an increasingly sparsely populated countryside which means that the costs to provide the service at the tip increases. This applies particularly to the pricing and this report is an important part of this work,” says Sten Selander, head of the PTS postal department.

PTS comparison shows that it is relatively inexpensive for the Swedes to send domestic first class mail. In contrast, the Swedish prices high compared to some of the other Nordic countries as it moves on to send 1st class letter to other European countries.

According to the PTS comparison, there are significant differences in the Swedish prices between letters and packages. While the price of domestic first class mail only been increased by more than 9 percent over a ten year period up to 2014, so, for example, the price of the lowest weight class of such parcels increased by almost 35 percent.

When to send domestic mail package so, Swedish consumers also pay more than their Nordic neighbors. But there are major differences in how to divide the weight classes for the package. Some operators also have a differential pricing between different parts of Europe and the rest of the world when it comes to foreign parcels.

In summary, the PTS report of Swedish consumer prices are at an intermediate level seen in relation to the compared countries.
