The Danish Consumer Ombudsman has reported the center association at Copenhagen center City 2 to the police for misleading consumers about a discount.

It’s about a VAT-free weekend in City 2 in November 2013 where ads and banners in the center promised 20 percent off on all merchandise in a number of specific stores

It did not however apply to already discounted items, items purchased with other discount scheme and other selected items. According to the Consumer Ombudsman/Forbrugerombudsmanden this appeared only in very small print at the bottom of the banners and newspaper ads.

”City 2 promised 20 percent discount on all products. But the centre association indicates in an unclear way that the offer does not apply to all products. It is in our opinion a misleading marketing when consumers can easily get the impression that the offer is better than it actually is. Therefore, we have chosen to report City 2 to the police, says Acting Consumer, Benedikte Havskov Hansen in a statement.

Center City 2 has informed the Consumer Ombudsman that it does not consider the ads misleading.
