Sweden is the only Nordic country with the weakest discount wave in the food trade.
But Rema 1000, available in both Norway and Denmark with great success, has no plans to test the market.
Now Odd Reitan says it probably does not happen as long as he is a partner in Axfood.
“Willys is Sweden’s answer to Rema 1000,” says Odd Reitan.
In connection with the Reitan Convenience big meeting in Malmö, Sydsvenskan met both Odd Reitan and Magnus Reitan.
Reitan Convenience has a strong presence in both Sweden and Finland – in the convenience store market. Reitan Group’s flagship Rema 1000 are, however, only in Norway and Denmark.
And to a direct question Odd Reitan dismisses thoughts about taking the concept to Sweden, although there is a gap in the market.
“As long as we have such a large share in Axfood I do not think we will introduce Rema 1000 in Sweden. Willys, who is part of Axfood, is Sweden’s answer to Rema 1000 and Willys is good, “says Odd Reitan to Sydsvenskan.
Magnus Reitan says the convenience store market is increasing again in Sweden.
“After a few tough years, we now see that the market is increasing and we are gaining market shares. Many of our merchants have had their best year ever, “says Magnus Reitan.
