Finland Post, Posti, is testing drone deliveries to an island in the Finnish gulf.
Along with Verkkokauppa.com a four days test with flying delivery is announced for next week.
“As far as we know we are the first in Europe to attempt delivery of packages in an urban environment using helicopter drones,” said Posti communications chief Anne Huhtala.
Posti’s website revealed Post’s intention to test the delivery with a robotic helicopter next week from Verkkokauppa.com’s roof terrace at the address Tyynenmerenkatu 11 in the western port in Helsinki out to residents living by the ancient fortress Suomenlinna / Sveaborg in the harbor with landing zone at Pikku-Mustasaaressa (Little Black Island).
“First of all, we intend to test the technology of the future for e-commerce logistics and mail delivery”, Anne Huhtala told Helsingin Sanomat.
The flight schedule shall be published on Tuesday.
