REMA 1000-direcotr Ole Robert Reitan met Agriculture Minister Sylvi Listhaug (FRP) to debate on Norwegian agricultural policy and Norwegian food prices during the Arendal Week Wednesday.
“You must love to pound me – but we are not to blame for high food prices”, said the discount chain CEO.
Listhaug called into the food chain for a meeting to explain the price jumpe after fresh SSB statistics showing that food prices have gone up by 2.3 percent last month.
”That’s ten times as much as the agricultural agreement envisaged, while prices decreased 2.1 percent internationally”, Listhaug said and added she wants a full review to find out the reasons.
She blamed Reitan for much of the responsibility.
”In 2014, our prices have increased by one percent. We have had the same mark on all products since we opened in 1979. I think most people agree on that we are not the reason why food prices are high in Norway. We have three percent profit. You must love to pound me, but the increases are to find elsewhere”, Ole Robert Reitan returned.
