According to Statistics Finland’s retail trade flash estimate, retail trade sales decreased by 1.4 per cent in May 2014 from May 2013.
Over the same time period, the volume of sales, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went down by 0.9 per cent.
In daily consumer goods trade (appx 47,6 percent of total turnover in retail trade), sales grew by 0.5 per cent in May and the volume of sales by 1.0 per cent from the respective period of the year before.
There were 25 weekday trading days in May 2014, which is the same as in May 2013.
The retail trade flash estimate is based on a sample covering, on the average, 60 per cent of retail trade turnover.
