Coop Sweden replaced its member refund program with a point system.

Now, Coop seems to have lost a lot of customers. Every 10th Coop Forum-customer has left the chain during the summer.

GFK’s latest grocery trader index, published by Market and Icanyheter, of household purchases of consumer goods shows that Coop lost three percent of their customers during June, July and August compared to the same three months in 2013.

Coop’s program went from being mentioned as the big future for Coop to be considered too expensive by the new management.

”Coops new member program received much attention and the focus was on the decline for the buyers. Media reporting may have affected the price-conscious members and their choice of store”, GFK analyst Bo Engström tells Icanyheter Update and Market.se.

According to the GFK index, Coop Forum and Coop Extra lost as many as one in ten customers. Especially Coop Forum drops among the most price-conscious households. The same kind of households contributed to Netto and Lidl strengthening their positions.
