Geir Inge Stoke becomes Coop Norway’s permanent solution.
Board of Coop Norge Handel and Coop Norge SA has appointed him as Group CEO of Coop Norway.
”Both from the thorough search and results Geir-Inge Stokke have delivered on time as acting CEO, the board is confident that we have found the best candidate,” says Chairman Lisbeth Bull Husby in Coop Norway.
Geir Inge Stoke, 49, has since the end of January 2015 been acting as CEO of Coop Norway, but was yesterday appointed as the new CEO.
”Coop is currently in a very exciting phase with great challenges. To succeed with the integration of ICA Norway is thus a very important task. Therefore, it was crucial to find the candidate who will best lead Coop through an intensive restructuring. It was necessary to have a long, thorough and comprehensive process where we have considered internal and external candidates. Both from the thorough search and results Geir-Inge Stokke have delivered on time as acting CEO, the board is confident that we have found the best candidate,” says Lisbeth Bull Husby.
Geir-Inge Stokke has for 25 years held various management positions at Coop, most recently as director of the specialist trade.
”The period I have been acting has been special. Coop has begun an arduous restructuring process and history’s most comprehensive re-profiling, where the former ICA and Rimi stores are part of Coop’s chains. We must succeed. Therefore, it is now the real work begins, and I look forward to. Yet, I am humbled by the formidable task it is to lead one of Norway’s largest companies with thousands of talented employees who every day stand in order to give our customers even better shopping experiences,” says Stokke, and adds:
”Coop has some unique opportunities. These should we use as our strengths. No one else has 1.4 million members they can communicate with and obtain input from. No one else has strong co-ops with unique local knowledge that can help to make the right moves wherever we are present. We will bring out the best from both our Samvirkelag and Coop Norway and make the sum of these even better.”
