The Nordic toy chain leader Top-Toy’s new ownership is followed by a change of leadership.
Peter Gjørup resigns and is succeeded by a recruitment from Lego.
”Coming from a family-owned company with strong values that are very consistent with Top-Toy’s I believe that I can both lift the heritage while creating new opportunities for Top-Toy in the years to come”, says Søren Torp Laursen, future CEO of Top-Toy.
Current CEO of Top-Toy, Peter Gjørup, has decided to resign his position and enter the Board of Directors. Søren Torp Laursen will take over the management of the company as Top-Toy’s new CEO.
Last year, the Gjørup family announced that they were looking for a strategic partner, who could add both capital and additional competencies to the company. The strategic partner became the Swedish private equity fund EQT, who is now the majority shareholder in the company.
In continuation of the takeover in late 2015, a new Board of Directors was appointed. Current CEO, Peter Gjørup, will step down from his position as CEO and instead use his expertise as a member of Top-Toy’s Board of Directors.
“For my family and me, the most important thing has always been to make the right decisions for Top-Toy. I look forward to my continued involvement with the company as a member of the Board of Directors and to contribute to the further development of Top-Toy, says Peter Gjørup.
Now Søren Torp Laursen will take over the day-to-day management of the company. He comes from The Lego Group, where he has held a position as the president of Lego Americas.
Søren Torp Laursen is considered a key driver behind Lego’s substantial growth on the American market and will now be working to fulfil Top-Toy’s growth ambitions.
“I am delighted with the appointment of Søren Torp Laursen as Top-Toy’s new CEO. Søren has a great track record and is a very innovative and commercially oriented leader with profound experience from the toy industry. I am confident that he will be a great asset for Top-Toy and play an important role in the execution of our ambitious plans for the future”, says Michael Hauge Sørensen, Chairman of the Top-Toy Board.
Søren Torp Larsen has been with The Lego Group for 29 years.
“I look very much forward to joining Top-Toy. It is an iconic retailer in Scandinavia, with ambitious plans for the future and I am both proud and happy to lead the company at this exciting time.”, says Søren Torp Laursen who will have his first day as the CEO on 18 April 2016.
