Style index from Svensk Handel Stil shows that sales of clothing in the dealer channel, measured in comparable units and in current prices, fell by 0.3 percent in March compared with the same month last year.
The corresponding figure for sales in shoe stores show a decrease of 3.8 percent.
So far this year, from January to March, sales of clothing increased by 1.9 percent. Footwear sales during the same period increased by 2.3 percent.
”As expected, the fashion trade sales in March were fairly undramatic. Easter, which is very negative for the fashion trade, competed against a weak March last year,” says Svensk Handel Stil’s Chairman Mikael Sandström.
”As Easter was in April last year, we should see a large increase in the month, even though it was a strong comparative month last year of nearly 3 percent for garments and 2.5 percent for shoes.”
